Bangladesh Enters 5G Era as Robi and Grameenphone Launch Services

Bangladesh has officially entered the 5G era as Robi Axiata and Grameenphone rolled out commercial 5G services on September 1, 2025. Robi launched in select areas of Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet, while Grameenphone activated 5G across all eight divisional cities. Users with 5G-ready smartphones can enjoy faster speeds at no extra cost under existing 4G data plans.

Robi Becomes the First to Launch 5G

Robi Axiata took the lead by launching 5G in Bangladesh across select areas in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet. Locations include Fakirapul (Paltan), the Dhaka University area, Moghbazar Chowrasta, Khulshi in Chattogram, and Sagor Dighir Par in Sylhet.

Customers with 5G-enabled smartphones can instantly access the service, enjoying super-fast internet speeds at no extra cost, as Robi is offering 5G under existing 4G packages. The operator also announced plans to expand coverage to 200 sites by November 2025, focusing on regions with higher adoption of 5G-ready devices.

Grameenphone Expands 5G to Divisional Cities

Shortly after Robi, Grameenphone 5G rollout went live across all eight divisional headquarters of Bangladesh. While coverage may initially be spotty in some areas, GP’s strategy ensures broader access nationwide from day one.

Like Robi, Grameenphone 5G in Bangladesh comes at no extra cost, giving users faster speeds without changing their current data plans.

Key Benefits for Users

No extra charges – Both Robi and GP confirmed 5G services are included in existing 4G data packages.

Faster speeds – 5G networks can deliver hundreds of Mbps, enhancing streaming, gaming, and video calls.

Limited coverage at launch – Robi is live in select hotspots, while GP covers divisional HQs.

Future expansion – Robi targets 200 sites by November; GP plans phased rollouts nationwide

A Turning Point for Digital Bangladesh

The 5G network in Bangladesh opens the door for new opportunities in smart cities, healthcare, education, and industry. Faster mobile internet will support everything from high-definition video streaming to next-generation IoT applications.

However, widespread adoption depends on the availability of affordable 5G smartphones, as only 15–20% of current users have 5G-ready devices.

???? Bottom line: With Robi 5G Bangladesh and Grameenphone 5G rollout starting today, the nation has officially joined the global 5G race. For users in coverage areas, the future of connectivity has arrived.
